Carcass to Fleece Analytics (kg)
Doing post-harvest flock analytics? This calculator takes your abattoir hanging carcass weights and estimates the volume of grease wool (fleece) that the animal produced in its final year. The direct multiplier from carcass to fleece is exactly 0.10.
The 10% Correlation
How do we derive the 0.10 (10%) multiplier between carcass weight and fleece weight? It requires a simple reverse-calculation passing through the live weight data point.
1. Carcass
A hanging carcass is equal to 50% of the live weight.
2. Live Animal
Multiplying the carcass by 2 gives the live weight (100%).
3. Fleece
Fleece is 5% of the live weight. So, 2 × 0.05 = 0.10.
Example
If a carcass weighs 25 kg...
The live weight was ~50 kg.
The fleece weight was ~2.5 kg.
25 kg × 0.10 = 2.5 kg
