Sheep Fleece to Goat Carcass (kg)
Comparing harvest yields across a mixed ruminant herd? This highly specialized tool takes a sheep's raw metric wool yield (kg) and calculates what the equivalent-sized goat's hanging carcass weight (kg) would be. The multiplier is exactly 9.
The 9x Biological Ratio
While sheep wool and goat meat are entirely different products from different species, they both represent fixed biological percentages of their respective live animal weights. By comparing those percentages, we find a direct mathematical link.
1. The Sheep Wool
A sheep yields approximately 5% (0.05) of its live weight as raw grease wool.
2. The Goat Carcass
A meat goat yields approximately 45% (0.45) of its live weight as a hanging carcass.
The Mathematics
45 ÷ 5 = 9
Because 45 is exactly 9 times larger than 5, the goat carcass will always be exactly 9 times heavier than the sheep's wool yield (assuming identical live weights).
