Lbs/Acre to Ounces/yd²

Need extreme precision for a small spot treatment, garden box, or greenhouse trial? This tool shrinks a massive commercial farm rate (lbs per acre) down to a highly granular unit of ounces per single square yard. The multiplier is exactly 0.0033.

Shrinking the Imperial Grid

When scaling an enormous acre of land all the way down to a tiny 3x3 foot square yard, the concentration of product must be significantly reduced. Here is the exact calculation.

1. The Mass Shift

First, we break the pounds into ounces. Since there are exactly 16 ounces in a pound, 1 pound applied per acre is the exact same concentration as 16 ounces applied per acre.

2. The Area Extreme Decrease

An acre contains 43,560 square feet. A square yard contains 9 square feet. Therefore, a single acre holds exactly 4,840 square yards. We divide the 16 ounces by 4,840 to find the required ounces for a single square yard.

The Final Equation

16 ÷ 4840 = 0.0033

By multiplying your starting rate by ~0.0033, you find the exact ounce concentration per single square yard.
